Young wrestlers qualify for tourney

Four of seven members of a Hillsboro youth wrestling club qualified Saturday for the USA Wrestling tournament.

Qualifying were Madison Kenney, 8 and younger girl at 90 pounds, Jaxon Chrislip, 14 and younger at 130 pounds, Aaron Hein, 14 and younger at 140 pounds, and Sutton Redger, 14 and younger, at 165 pounds.

Six wrestlers from the group competed at the Kansas Star Arena in Mulvane.

Jaxon Chrislip competed in the USA wrestling middle school state tourney and finished 2-2.

Madison Kenney and Aimee Kelly participated in the girls elementary and middle school tourney.

Mason Bartel placed fourth in the Elementary Heartland Duals qualifier, qualifying to participate on one of six teams to represent Kansas in the Heartland Elementary National Duals in Council Bluffs, Iowa later this spring.

Collin Stewart and Braxton Klenda participated in the Kansas 6 and younger age group state championship. He finished 2-2 for a record in his first year participating.

Braxton went undefeated on the day, 3-0, and won the 6 and younger state championship, finishing his season 23-0. Braxton is the first 6 and younger state champion from Hillsboro Wrestling Club.
