Wrestling team twice the size

Staff writer

With 11 boys out for wrestling this year, Marion will have twice as big team as it had last year.

Every member of the team has wrestled at some point in the last two years making the transition to a new season much easier.

Colby Lollar, senior transfer student, will be a new face but he has wrestled his entire high school career adding immediate impact to practices and competitions.

Chance Shults, the other senior on the team, is looking to finish his career by qualifying for state and working to make the podium.

“Chance has been a great member of our team all four years and is a leader in the wrestling room,” coach Tyler McMichael said.

Five freshmen will move up to varsity this season and McMichael is looking forward to getting them adjusted to high school wrestling, guiding them through first year struggles.

The Warriors will face Burlington on the road Friday for their first dual tournament.

“This year I look forward to seeing us be more competitive at tournaments and duals since we will fill 9 or 10 weight classes.” McMichael said.

“Getting the freshman up to speed and getting everyone’s technique more advanced is our main goal for the season.”
