Teacher investigation continues

A Peabody-Burns teacher remains on administrative leave as investigations by the school district and sheriff’s office into allegations of misconduct continue.

Superintendent Antoinette Root informed parents Jan. 21 that the district received a report of possible inappropriate conduct involving a high school teacher. The teacher was immediately suspended, and a long-term substitute was assigned.

The district is standing by its earlier statement, citing confidentiality laws as the reason for not releasing details. Root has reiterated that student safety remains the district’s top priority.

Undersheriff Larry Starkey said the sheriff’s office was investigating whether the matter involves more than one possible incident of misconduct, though he declined to release specifics while the investigation is ongoing.
