Sampler of county's crops, grains, fruits, and vegetables takes 2nd in state

Marion’s FFA chapter has won second place in a statewide content to showcase Marion County agriculture at the state fair.

The chapter organized and constructed a booth, displayed in the Kansas Showcase building across from the Bison Arena, displaying 60 samples of crops, grasses, fruits, and vegetables from the county.

The booths, called “county collectives,” are scored according to the variety and quality of the commodities shown.

Crop and garden samples were obtained from local producers including Alan Hett, Jirak Brothers Produce, N.M. Patton, Clint and Marty Kroupa, Pam Byer, the Marion FFA garden, Randy Svitak, Leonard Frantz, Jason Kruse, Gary Evans, Alex Jost, Keith Jost, and Stuart Penner.

FFA members Lexee Wickman, Ella Mackey, Miriam Mason, and Ryliegh Holloway helped to set up the booth.

Teacher Mark Meyer is their sponsor.
