Republicans plan candidate forum

Republican candidates other than precinct committeemen and women on the Aug. 2 primary ballot are being invited to speak and answer questions at a party forum at 7 p.m. July 6 at Marion County Lake hall.

Which candidates plan to attend has not been released by county chairman Rose Davidson.

Some township positions are contested, but most local candidates are running unopposed. Other than legislative candidates, state candidates typically don’t appear at county forums.

Deadline to change party affiliation has passed. Deadline to register is July 12. Advance voting will begin July 13.

CONTESTED CANDIDATES
IN REPUBLICAN PRIMARY

Senate — Incumbent Jerry Moran of Manhattan and challenger Joan Faar of Derby.

Governor — Challengers Aryln Briggs of Kincaid and Derek Schmidt of Topeka.

Secretary of state — Challenger Mike Brown of Overland Park and incumbent Scott Schwab of Kansas City, Kansas.

Attorney general — Candidates Kris Kobach of Lecompton, Tony Mattivi of Topena, and Kellie Warren of Leawood.

State treasurer — Challengers Steven Johnson of Assaria and Caryn Tyson of Parker.

State representative — In the 70th District, which includes northern Marion County, incumbent John Barker and challenger Scott Hill, both of Abilene.
