ACTIVITY REPORTS

Law enforcement agencies provided these reports of their activities this past week. Routine activities such as patrols, inspections, training, report-writing, and assistance to other agencies generally are excluded. Dates may reflect starting or ending dates of officers’ shifts rather than actual dates of occurrence.

MARION

July 27 — A fight was reported in the 400 block of N. Roosevelt St., where police also stood by during a civil matter. Three drivers were warned for speeding at US-56 and Timber Rd.

July 28 — Police contacted the owner of a vehicle disabled on Eastmoor Dr. Two drivers were warned — one for speeding, the other for an unspecified moving violation — at Main and Thorp Sts. and at Main and 3rd Sts.

July 29 — A report of fraud at Central National Bank was investigated; no offense report was released. A driver was warned for speeding at Main and Walnut Sts.

Thursday — A threat at St. Luke Hospital was investigated; no offense report was released. A driver was warned for speeding at US-56 and Industrial St.

Friday — A hit-and-run accident in a St. Luke Hospital parking lot was investigated; no report was released. A dog was reported loose at an undisclosed location. Marion’s drug-sniffing police dog was used by the sheriff’s office at a traffic stop in Hillsboro; no offense report was released by the sheriff’s department. Three drivers were warned for speeding or equipment violations at Main and Freeborn Sts., US-56 and Cedar St., and US-56 and Timber Rd.

Saturday — Police helped the sheriff’s office with a traffic stop at Main and 4th Sts. Marion’s drug-sniffing police dog was used by the sheriff’s office at a traffic stop near K-256 and US-77; no offense report was released by the sheriff’s office. One driver was ticketed for driving in violation of license restriction and another was warned for an equipment violation at Main and Cedar St. and at US-77 and K-256.

Sunday — Eight drivers were warned for speeding or equipment violations in four traffic stops at US-56 and Timber Rd., two at US-56 and Cedar St., one at US-56 and Industrial St., and one at Main and 3rd Sts.

HILLSBORO

July 27 — Reports of damage to Main St. and to a Sinclair Fleet Fuel pump were investigated. Police met with a driver of a vehicle locked in Bomgaars parking lot.

July 28 — A rental truck reportedly was blocking an alley. Police helped the sheriff’s office with a wreck on US-56 near Limestone Rd.

July 29 — An official offense report remains pending, but Ryan D. Howser, 40, Wichita, was arrested on suspicion of possession of methamphetamine, cocaine, anabolic steroids, and drug paraphernalia; interference with law enforcement; having no drug tax stamp; and distribution of controlled substances after a drug-sniffing police dog was called to check a suspicious vehicle parked in the Ampride parking lot. Howser was jailed in lieu of posting a $100,000 bond.

A vehicle reportedly drove across Tabor College’s soccer field. Another vehicle was found abandoned in the 100 block of W. A St. Debris was removed from Indigo Rd. at 170th Rd. Police found no evidence of reckless driving reported at Indigo and 160th Rd.

Thursday — Police helped a sheriff’s deputy with a traffic stop on US-56, answered a resident’s questions about a police ride-along program, and met with a resident concerned about child safety.

Friday — Investigation of a person throwing a chicken salad sandwich at employees of Casey’s General Store is continuing. Dogs reported loose in the 200 block of S. Ash St. were not found. Police stood by during a civil matter at Barkman Honey.

Saturday — A disconnected 911 call from the 1000 block of Briarwood Ct. was attributed to a cell phone being dropped. Police helped water plant workers exchange a chlorine tank and helped an owner search for an escaped dog.

Sunday — A peddler was reported in the Willow Glen area. A dog reportedly barking in the 200 block of S. Adams St. was not found. Police checked on a person walking on Indigo Rd. at 180th Rd. and met with a person about a child custody issue in the 300 block of N. Ash St.
