Activity reports

Law enforcement agencies provided these reports of their activities this past week. Routine activities such as patrols, inspections, training, report-writing, and assistance to other agencies are excluded.

Hillsboro

March 16 — Officers warned a driver for speeding. Police warned another driver about a loud muffler. Officers helped the fire department with an alarm at Tabor College that turned out to be nothing. Officers investigated suspicious activity behind the Et Cetera Shop that turned out to be a person checking the Dumpster for clothes.

March 18 — Police investigated a report of vehicle with no tag at a gas station after a citizen followed it from out in the country because the driver was driving erratically. The vehicle left prior to officer’s arrival and could not be located. Police did a welfare check in the 400 block of N. Ash St. An officer told the driver of a farm truck he had faulty tail and brake lights. Officers told a person trespassing in the 200 block of S. Madison to leave the property.. Police informed the water department about a leak.

Friday — Police warned a motorist for having frost on his windshield. Police assisted the fire department with an alarm at Tabor College, but everything was OK. Police warned a driver for speeding.

Saturday — Police investigated a disturbance at the city park that turned out to be small scuffle between minors. Officers issued a citation for speeding. Police checked out a loud bang in the downtown area, but found nothing. Police found a vehicle reported speeding downtown parked at a residence and warned the driver. Police were advised of a vehicle involved in possible drug activity heading toward Hillsboro and Marion, but were unable to find the vehicle.

Sunday — Officers warned a driver for using a cell phone and another for speeding. Police checked out a report of a suspicious vehicle, but were unable to locate it.

Marion

March 15 — Officers helped Marion county sheriff’s deputies find a juvenile. Police returned a lost wallet to its owner.

March 16 — Officers picked up a dog in the 700 block of E. Main St. and took it to Animal Health Center and returned another to its owner in the 300 block of N. Freeborn St. Police assisted sheriff’s deputies with an alarm.

March 17— Police checked out a disturbance reported in the 100 block of S. Roosevelt St., but everything was OK. Police investigated a possible theft in the 1200 block of E. Main St., but took no action. Officers checked out a parking complaint in the 100 block of N. 5th St.

March 18— Officers checked on a vehicle in the 200 block of N. Cedar St., but the driver was just making a phone call. Police contacted the owner of a cat in a tree in the 200 block of S. Cedar St.

Friday — Police investigated a possible theft in the 200 block of N. Roosevelt St.

Saturday — Police helped Marion ambulance with two calls in the 1500 block of E. Main St. and assisted Hillsboro city police with a vehicle search. Officers passed on information about a vehicle that hit a deer to the sheriff’s department because the accident was in their jurisdiction.

Sunday — Police checked on a 911 disconnect in the 1000 block of Melvin St., but everything was OK. Police issued a warning for speeding to a driver on US-56 near Upland Rd. Officers checked out damage to a window in the 1200 block of Commercial St. that turned out to be an accident. limit and illegal tag or no tag Jan. 30, $228.
