REPORTED

These offense reports were released this past week by law enforcement agencies:

SHERIFF

Trespass, underage liquor possession

A gallon of Skol vodka valued at $12 was reported seized from an unidentified juvenile who allegedly was trespassing at 11:11 p.m. Sept. 10 at Mid-Kansas Cooperative’s grain elevator in Florence.

In a news story last week, the Record reported that three other people — two men, ages 38 and 42, and a woman, age 51 — were detained but not arrested for an apparently drunken attempt to scale the elevator at the time.

No offense report regarding those people has been released.

HILLSBORO

Drunken driving, speeding, open container, no insurance

Joseph G. Arnold, 35, Coralville, Iowa, was arrested after police allegedly clocked him going 87 mph in a 65-mph zone at 11:32 p.m. Sept. 12 on US-56 between Ash and Adams Sts.

Officer Peyton Heidebrecht noticed an odor of alcohol and an open container inside the vehicle and administered a field sobriety test.

Arnold was taken to county jail on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, transporting an open container of alcohol, having no evidence of vehicle liability insurance, and speeding.

He was released 14 hours later after posting a $1,500 surety bond.

Marijuana and paraphernalia possession

Madelynn J. Matias, 20, of Bristol, Virginia, who in 2018 was the subject of a missing person investigation in Ottawa, Kansas, was arrested at 10:36 p.m. Saturday in the 500 block of S. Main St. on out-of-county warrants for failing to appear in court and on suspicion of drug charges after she was a passenger in a two-vehicle accident at 9:49 p.m. Saturday at Ash and D Sts. nearby.

During investigation of the accident, one of the drivers, James R. Spohn, 23, Marion, told police that his girlfriend had left the scene to look to search for her cat, which also had been in his pickup.

Matias later was located and was detained after a license check uncovered warrants against her. Officer Peyton Heidebrecht searched her and reported discovering a gram of marijuana (enough for three “joints”) and two unspecified items of drug paraphernalia.

She was taken to county jail and held overnight before being released the next day after posting $8,500 in surety bonds.

MARION

Domestic battery

Dustin Luchi, 43, Marion, was arrested on suspicion of domestic battery after he allegedly slapped his 59-year-old former girlfriend in the face, knocking a cigarette out of her mouth, during a quarrel at 9:14 p.m. Sept. 13 at a residence in the 500 block of Walnut St.

He was taken to county jail and released Thursday after posting a $5,000 surety bond.

According to monitored police transmissions, police were sent to the Walnut St. residence after a third person complained that a driver of a four-wheeler had broken a hand railing there.

An offense report filed in connection with the arrest does not mention this complaint.

Burglary

Hand tools, two welding helmets, welding rods, and a three-drawer toolbox, together valued at $1,325, were reported stolen between 3 a.m. Sept. 10 and 10 p.m. Sept. 12 from a vehicle owned by Laverne E. Bina, 80, of Marion and parked in the 100 block of S. 1st St.

No signs of forced entry were found.
