Lake fireworks grow each year

This year’s fourth annual fireworks display at Marion County Lake, scheduled for July 5, is expected once again to draw enough people to pack nearly every foot of the park.
Money for fireworks is raised by an annual two-day Bluegrass at the Lake event and a chili cook-off and car show.
This year’s event will kick off with a parade around the lake at 7 p.m. Fireworks will begin about 9:45 p.m., lake director Isaac Hett said.
Hett arranges for the fireworks.
Lake resident Trini Finley looks forward to the show all year. His family comes in for a cookout and makes a day of it.
“I think it’s a good deal for the lake,” Finley said. “There are a lot of people who come out from town. We usually smoke up a bunch of meat and corn on the cob. They’ll shoot off their fireworks, too.”
Finley and his family appreciate Hett.
“Isaac has some donation boxes he puts up around the lake for the show,” Finley said. “Isaac’s a good guy and does a lot for the lake.”
Finley has competed in the chili cook-off most years he and his wife have lived there.
“It’s just fun,” Finley said. “Everybody has a good time. You meet a lot of people who live around the lake, too.”
A cornhole tournament, which Finley also enjoys, usually follows the cook-off.
