Track and field is the main sport this spring for students at Peabody-Burns.
Student-athletes also are involved in baseball and swimming in cooperative teams with Hillsboro and Marion.
Track
Led by coach Austin Weaver, Peabody-Burns has three varsity athletes and 22 junior high athletes participating this season.
All three varsity athletes are returners from last season — Max Turner, Sarah Winfrey, and Adyson Winter.
“My goal for these three,” Weaver said, “is to get them to regionals and experience that since they are all freshman and haven’t been before.
“I think all three of these athletes have an opportunity to compete well enough to make it to state in the next few years,” Weaver said.
The 22 junior high athletes have real potential to grow into the track and field athletes, he said, and are at the point in theirs careers in which they are trying out new events and races to find their strengths.
“As a coach, I really love when our junior high athletes find their thing,” Weaver said.
Varsity will have eight regular meets before regionals while the junior high will have six.
Peabody varsities first track meet will take place in Hillsboro on April 2nd.
