Hillsboro schools eye building projects

Contemplating several building projects, Hillsboro school board members voted Monday to hire an architect and a construction manager.
Wichita-based Shultz Squared Architects was hired to help the district with planning and design for several infrastructure projects.
Board members also voted to advertise for a construction manager.
A public hearing seeking comments is scheduled for 11 a.m. Jan. 23.
“Hopefully, by March or April, we will have one selected,” superintendent Clint Corby said.
Corby said the work would focus on several infrastructure needs.
Projects will include work on air conditioning, windows, concrete, roofing, and painting.
School entryways also will be included.
“We’ve talked about safety and security, so when people come through the doors, they will have to come through the office,” Corby said.
Work will be done on all district buildings.
It will be the first major construction work since a locker room corridor between the middle school and high school was added in 2008.
No estimate of cost is available, Corby said.
“In 2018, we had a construction audit done, and since COVID-19, everything has changed,” he said. “Our numbers are only six years old, and they are no longer relevant. I know I’ve got $1.7 million worth of roofs that we have to get done.”
