Hillsboro celebrates volleyball team

Hillsboro mayor Lou Thurston proclaimed Tuesday “Trojan Girls Volleyball State Champion Day,” recognizing a first-place state win.

Players were Kori Arnold, Anslee Brewer, Keeley Brewer, D’Myia Cox, Talia Jost, Kirsten Kluver, Makenna Reed, Kingzley Ratzlaff, Savannah Shahan, Ella Suderman, and Lauryn Vogt, and Zaylee Werth. Bailee Gawith was manager.

Arnold, Shahan, Suderman, and Werth received all-state tournament honors. Arnold and Werth also received first-team all-league honors. Shahan and Suderman received second-team all-league honors, and Kluver received honorable mention all-league honors.

Head coach Sandy Arnold and assistant coaches Erin Carr and Jill Hein also were honored. The Oct. 22 win against Smith Center marked Arnold’s fourth state championship.
