Farmers market to start Monday

Home-baked goods and early-season produce will be available from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday at the opening of Peabody’s weekly farmers market on the west side of Walnut St. downtown.

The market is scheduled to run each Monday through Sept. 6. Meals will be available in June as a fundraiser for Peabody Fall Festival, planned for Oct. 2.

Menus will include taco salads from Sharon’s Rollin’ Kitchen, sloppy Joes from Pop’s Diner, pulled pork with Wings and Tails, and sausage and kraut from Peabody Sausage House.

Grower Marti Nellans has been testing her produce.

“We tried the first new potatoes, roasted with fresh onions,” she was quoted as saying in a Healthy Eating Rural Opportunities news release. “They were so good!”

Shoppers can anticipate peas, potatoes, onions, beets, and other early-season produce.

More information is available from market organizer Kaylyn Thiessen at (620) 983-2731 or lkthiessen8@gmail.com.
