Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

JUNE 18

9:41 a.m. — Fire in a wheat field at 90th and Alamo Rds. was extinguished in a little less than three hours by firefighters from Goessel, Hillsboro, Moundridge, and Peabody.

1:42 p.m. — Burns firefighters helped fight two fires in Butler County.

4:20 p.m. — Goessel firefighters returned to 90th and Alamo Rds. and spent less than an hour extinguishing rekindled flames in a tree line.

10:35 p.m. — An emotionally disturbed 27-year-old woman was taken to Hillsboro Community Hospital from the 100 block of N. Main St. in Hillsboro.

JUNE 19

6:18 p.m. — Peabody firefighters shut off leaking natural gas in the 500 block of N. Walnut St. in Peabody pending arrival of a crew from Atmos Energy.

THURSDAY

6:26 a.m. — Marion and Hillsboro ambulances, two additional medics, Peabody firefighters and rescue squad members, and multiple law enforcement officers responded to a double fatality head-on accident on US-50 west of Union Rd.

FRIDAY

3:21 p.m. — A person injured in a collision between a semi-trailer truck and a sport utility vehicle on US-50 near Old Mill Rd. was taken to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center, by Hillsboro ambulance. Marion ambulance, an additional medic, and Peabody firefighters and rescue squad members also were dispatched.

4:18 p.m. — A 47-year-old woman who stepped out of a moving vehicle at Vine and 3rd Sts. in Peabody and would not speak was checked by Marion ambulance attendants but declined to be taken to a hospital even though Peabody firefighters were called to help lift her. Tampa ambulance was dispatched to stand by at the Marion ambulance station in case of additional calls.

SATURDAY

8:02 a.m. — A trauma patient at HCH was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 10:41 a.m.

4:42 p.m. — A 65-year-old man who passed out after falling and hitting his head at a home on Jerome St. at Marion County Park and Lake was taken to St. Luke Hospital, Marion, by Marion ambulance.

4:44 p.m. — An 18-year-old girl having a seizure at a farm near 80th and Eagle Rds. was taken to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, by Hillsboro ambulance. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 7:17 p.m.

11:37 p.m. — A 65-year-old man with cardiac issues was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to St. Francis. The ambulance returned to Marion at 2:11 a.m.

SUNDAY

2:54 a.m. — A woman with an irregular heartbeat at a Cottonwood Point restroom at Marion Reservoir was checked by Hillsboro ambulance attendants but declined to be taken to a hospital.

12:24 p.m. — A 57-year-old woman, bleeding from above her eyes after falling and hitting her head outside a home in the 200 block of W. B St. in Hillsboro, was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

MONDAY

11:35 a.m. — A 79-year-old man who fell in the 600 block of N. Elm St. in Peabody declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

1:15 p.m. — Durham and Tampa firefighters spent less than an hour controlling a fire in a wheat field near 320th and Limestone Rds.

5:09 p.m. — Hillsboro firefighters, rescue squad members, and ambulance were dispatched along with sheriff’s deputies for what proved to be an abandoned pickup found in a pond adjacent to Marion Reservoir at 240th and Kanza Rds.

7:55 p.m. — A elderly man going in and out of consciousness and having trouble breathing after spending several hours in heat in the 200 block of Circle Dr. in Florence was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.
