Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

JAN. 24

3:34 p.m. — A 76-year-old woman with low hemoglobin at Peabody Health and Rehab was taken to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center, by Hillsboro ambulance. An EMT with Peabody ambulance was dispatched as a first responder.

3:46 p.m. — A 76-year-old man with abdominal pains at a county lake residence near Lakeshore Dr. and Lois Ln. was tended to for 1½ hours by a Marion ambulance crew using the county’s backup ambulance, formerly based in Florence. The man declined to be taken to a hospital.

5:12 p.m. — With Marion ambulance attendants still on their call to the county lake, Hillsboro ambulance, en route back to Hillsboro from Newton, was diverted to respond to a medical alert originating from an apartment at Homestead Senior Residences, Marion. Upon arrival 16 minutes later, medics determined that the alarm accidentally had been activated.

JAN. 25

1:56 a.m. — A 44-year-old woman with abdominal pain at an apartment in the 1200 block of E. Main St. in Marion was taken to St. Luke Hospital in the county’s backup ambulance.

1:07 p.m. — Peabody ambulance responded to accidental activation of a medical alarm by a resident of the 500 block of N. Walnut St. in Peabody.

1:46 p.m. — A 64-year-old man with back pain and a lessened level of alertness at Homestead Senior Residences was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

2:40 p.m. — A woman who fell in a laundry room at Homestead declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

3:14 p.m. — A 64-year-old woman with low blood sugar and altered alertness at a residence in the 400 block of Walnut St. in Marion declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

5:15 p.m. — No fire was found after Hillsboro firefighters responded to the pulling of a fire alarm on the men’s quad at Tabor College.

THURSDAY

7:32 a.m. — An incoherent 54-year-old woman in the 100 block of S. State St. in Goessel was taken to NMC by Hillsboro ambulance. Goessel first responders tended to the patient until the ambulance arrived. Goessel firefighters helped lift the patient.

8:05 a.m. — Smoldering remnants of a brush fire set the day before by a road and bridges crew at Nighthawk and 160th Rds. was checked by Peabody firefighters. No intervention was deemed necessary.

8:59 a.m. — A smoke and carbon dioxide alarm that sounded as a residence in the 200 block of E. 9th St. in Peabody was checked by Peabody firefighters.

7:13 p.m. — Hillsboro medics helped a woman who activated a medical alarm after falling at Grand Oaks Apartments in Hillsboro and needing help getting up. She declined to be taken to a hospital.

9:49 p.m. — A 12-year-old asthmatic boy with trouble breathing in the 100 block of S. Cedar St. in Hillsboro was taken to Hillsboro Community Hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

FRIDAY

5:43 a.m. — Marion ambulance responded to a call, the nature and location of which was garbled on newspaper recordings. The patient declined to be taken to a hospital.

8:59 a.m. — A patient complaining of back pain, whose age and location were garbled on newspaper recordings, was taken to NMC by Hillsboro ambulance. An off-duty ambulance attendant appeared to have assisted with the call.

12:20 p.m. — An 89-year-old man with trouble breathing after surgery was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to HCH from Parkside Homes.

3:59 p.m. — A unconscious 34-year-old man who suffered a seizure in the 200 block of S. Ash St. was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

SATURDAY

11:36 a.m. — At a physician’s request, a 91-year-old woman with influenza in the 300 block of S. Lincoln St. in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

12:47 p.m. — A vehicle and adjacent grass on fire near 340th and Indigo Rds. were extinguished within 1½ hours by Tampa and Durham firefighters.

5:24 p.m. — A grass fire at US-50 and Yarrow Rd. was extinguished within 10 minutes by Florence firefighters.

8:15 p.m. — A diabetic 60-year-old man with a head wound and an altered state of consciousness was taken by Marion ambulance to St. Luke from the 100 block of W. Santa Fe St. in Marion

8:23 p.m. — A 99-year-old man with back pain was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from Parkside Homes to HCH.

SUNDAY

11:59 a.m. — A lightheaded and weak 89-year-old woman who threw up at Tabor Church east of Goessel was taken to NMC by Hillsboro ambulance.

MONDAY

8 a.m. — An 84-year-old man having trouble breathing at Homestead was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance. Hillsboro ambulance briefly responded as well.

9:33 a.m. — A fire alarm at Bethesda Home in Goessel was determined by Goessel firefighters to be a false alarm caused by maintenance at the nursing home.

3:10 p.m. — A 75-year-old woman with chest pains was transferred by Marion ambulance on an emergency basis from St. Luke to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.

3:55 p.m. — A 91-year-old man with slurred speech and reduced cognitive function was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from Salem Home to HCH.

7:20 p.m. — A 44-year-old woman suspected of having a stroke at Family Dollar / Dollar Tree in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance. Marion firefighters helped lift the patient.

10:30 p.m. — The patient from Family Dollar was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to NMC.
