Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

NOV. 15

11:37 a.m. — An 81-year-old man having stroke-like symptoms for nearly a day at a farmhouse near 290th and Wagon Wheel Rds. was taken by Marion ambulance to St. Luke Hospital and then transferred by Eagle Med helicopter to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita. A paramedic from Hillsboro ambulance, temporarily using an ambulance normally based in Peabody, joined the crew of Marion ambulance en route. Tampa ambulance stood by at Lehigh for some reason as the only county ambulance available until an additional medic could be called in to join the remaining Hillsboro ambulance attendant. Lincolnville first responders were paged but did not answer. All ambulances were back in their stations by 2:03 p.m.

2:05 p.m. — An 86-year-old woman having trouble breathing in the 400 block of S. Cedar St. in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance. Hillsboro ambulance initially was dispatched as well.

Technical problems prevented recording of transmissions between 6 and 7:39 p.m.

7:39 p.m. — Marion ambulance reported completing transfer of a patient to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. The ambulance was back in its quarters at 9:09 p.m.

9:29 p.m. — A 53-year-old male patient was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Wesley. The ambulance was back in Marion at 11:51 p.m.

10:35 p.m. — A 77-year-old woman who fell at a home in the 1000 block of Tanglewood St. in Marion after previously being treated for a fractured back was taken to St. Luke by Hillsboro ambulance, filling in for Marion ambulance and still temporarily using the vehicle normally based in Peabody.

NOV. 16

6:27 a.m. — An 83-year-old man who fell at a farmhouse near 260th and Remington Rd. was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance. An off-duty attendant also responded to the call.

9:15 a.m. — A 51-year-old man with hip and neck pain after an earlier fall in which he lost consciousness was taken by Marion ambulance to Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital, El Dorado, from the 200 block of W. 4th St. in Florence. The ambulance returned to Marion at 11:17 a.m.

10:06 a.m. — With Marion ambulance out of the county, Hillsboro ambulance was dispatched to St. Luke to assist with equipment and intubation until 11:35 a.m.

9:01 p.m. — A Hillsboro Community Hospital patient was transferred to Wesley Woodlawn Hospital, Wichita, by Hillsboro ambulance, still temporarily using the vehicle normally assigned to Peabody. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 11:27 p.m.

THURSDAY

1 a.m. — Hillsboro firefighters determined that a false alarm at Cedar Hall dormitory on the Tabor College campus probably was set off by steam from a shower.

6:07 a.m. — Marion firefighters checked reports of smoke rising from a tank truck that struck a deer on US-77 as it approached 190th Rd.

6:43 a.m. — An 86-year-old man with fibrosis and trouble breathing in the 100 block of N. Cedar St. in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

3:37 p.m. — A St. Luke patient was transferred to Wesley Woodlawn by Marion ambulance. The ambulance returned to Marion at 6:28 p.m.

FRIDAY

7:50 a.m. — An 80-year-old female patient from Salem Home in Hillsboro was transferred to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

8:19 a.m. — A 97-year-old woman with hip pain after falling the night before in the 400 block of Locust St. in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

12:30 p.m. — A 39-year-old woman drifting in and out of consciousness after overdosing on medication at a residence in the 300 block of E. Commercial St. in Goessel was taken to Wesley by Hillsboro ambulance, which was diverted there from NMC Health, Newton. A sheriff’s deputy and a Goessel first responder assisted until the ambulance arrived. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 3:05 p.m.

4:30 p.m. — Another fire alarm at Tabor College’s Cedar Hall, this one in the laundry room, was determined by Hillsboro firefighters to have been caused by an overloaded washer.

5:53 p.m. — Peabody firefighters were dispatched to the 700 block of N. Peabody St. in Peabody for a beeping carbon monoxide detector with a low battery that the resident was unable to change.

SATURDAY

2:45 p.m. — An 80-year-old woman with an infectious disease was transferred from HCH to NMC by Hillsboro ambulance. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 4:57 p.m.

3:12 p.m. — A 36-year-old man who said he might have developed an infection after surgery asked Marion ambulance to meet him as he walked two blocks toward St. Luke from a rental home in the 600 block of S. Roosevelt St. in Marion. Ambulance attendants located him and initially reported that they would take him to HCH, not St. Luke, but then reported that he declined to be taken to any hospital. The ambulance instead took him back to his residence.

7:40 p.m. — At the request of Hillsboro police, Hillsboro ambulance attendants drew blood from a person detained at the Hillsboro police station.

SUNDAY

12:42 p.m. — Peabody and Hillsboro ambulances, Peabody firefighters, and Hillsboro rescue squad were dispatched to what initially was reported to be a rollover involving a semi-trailer truck on US-50 between Old Mill and Pawnee Rds. It then was reported to be a head-on collision, entrapping two people. Marion ambulance was added to the list of units dispatched, Tampa ambulance was sent to stand by at Canada, and attempts were made to dispatch a helicopter ambulance. However, the first firefighters on the scene reported that it was a one-vehicle accident involving a pickup pulling a camper and that there was no entrapment and were no injuries requiring hospital treatment.

MONDAY

11:52 a.m. — A confused 69-year-old woman behaving uncharacteristically at Salem Home in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

1:05 p.m. — A 94-year-old woman complaining of a rash at a residence in the 300 block of S. Lincoln St. in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

3:57 p.m. — Lost Springs, Ramona, Lincolnville, Tampa, and Herington firefighters spent an hour extinguishing a fire in a shed on 340th Rd. between Remington and Sunflower Rds. A Tampa ambulance attendant reported the fire.

6:26 p.m. — A 94-year-old woman unable to lift her feet after falling several times in the 500 block of N. Roosevelt St. in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.
