Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

JAN. 4

3:32 a.m. — A fire alarm at Westview Manor in Peabody was determined to be a false alarm activated by a resident. Peabody, Florence, and Burns fire departments and Peabody ambulance all were dispatched.

6:11 p.m. — Goessel firefighters determined that a fire alarm at a duplex in the 300 block of Meadow Lane in Goessel was set off needlessly by an oven.

6:13 p.m. — A patient with an undisclosed condition was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to Hillsboro Community Hospital from a crosswalk outside a men’s dormitory at Tabor College.

8:21 p.m. — Code words indicated COVID-19 was suspected when a 70-year-old man with breathing problems in the 200 block of S. Nickerson St. in Burns was taken by Marion ambulance to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.

11:56 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance delayed transferring a Hillsboro Community Hospital patient to Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita, for approximately 20 minutes until after Marion ambulance returned from Wesley.

JAN. 5

10:27 a.m. — A woman in her 50s who woke up with a persistent nosebleed and coughing up blood was checked by Hillsboro ambulance but declined to be taken to a hospital from the 100 block of S. State St. in Goessel. Goessel first responders were paged but did not answer.

11:10 a.m. — A woman whose son found her lying on a floor at a residence in the 700 block of S. Lincoln St. in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

3:57 p.m. — An HCH patient was taken to St. Luke Hospital, Marion, for a CT scan then returned to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

5:40 p.m. — With Hillsboro ambulance still transferring the CT patient back to HCH, a 35-year-old woman having a seizure at Salem Home in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Marion ambulance.

8:35 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance traveled to HCH to assist with a patient. The ambulance returned to its quarters at 10:11 p.m.

THURSDAY

6:54 a.m. — Tampa ambulance was called to verify the death of a 103-year-old woman at her residence near 350th and Limestone Rds.

1:09 p.m. — A Salem Home resident in his 80s with life-threatening difficulty breathing was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, after it was diverted by both Newton Medical Center and Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita.

1:53 p.m. — With Hillsboro ambulance still en route to Wichita, a weak, confused, and paranoid 81-year-old woman at an apartment in the 200 block of S. Ash St. in Hillsboro was taken by Marion ambulance to HCH.

2:22 p.m. — With both Hillsboro and Marion ambulances still on their calls, Tampa ambulance was called for an 86-year-old woman with poor blood circulation after a fall Tuesday evening at a residence in the 100 block of N. Adams St. in Hillsboro. Marion ambulance completed its call to HCH before Tampa ambulance arrived and took the patient to St. Luke. A Hillsboro police officer assisted until the ambulance arrived.

4:39 p.m. — Goessel firefighters and Hillsboro rescue squad members extricated a driver from a semi-trailer truck that rolled onto its side at K-15 and 130th Rd. Hillsboro ambulance also was dispatched.

Technical problems prevented monitoring of transmissions from 5:30 p.m. until midnight.

FRIDAY

Technical problems prevented monitoring of transmissions from noon until 7:30 p.m.

9:28 p.m. — An OnStar report of an injury accident at 5th and Vine Sts. in Peabody apparently proved to be a false alarm. Peabody and Marion ambulances and Peabody firefighters were told to disregard the call.

SATURDAY

10:26 a.m. — A truck fire near 170th and Alamo Rds. was extinguished before Goessel firefighters could arrive.

9:35 p.m. — A 33-year-old woman having difficulty speaking between breaths and complaining of pain from previous back surgery was taken from near 230th and Diamond Rds. to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance, which arrived before Tampa ambulance, which also was dispatched.

SUNDAY

12:45 p.m. — A 13-year-old girl experiencing a seizure with no history of such problems was taken by Marion ambulance from the 400 block of N. Olive St. in Peabody to Wesley, after being diverted from Newton Med.

MONDAY

12:06 p.m. — A 69-year-old woman weak and not feeling well at Hilltop Manor apartments in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.
