David Schmidtberger
Memorial services for Marion native David Wayne Schmidtberger, 47, who gained his angel wings Nov. 4, 2024, at Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, were 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 11, at Ankeny Funeral Home and Crematory in Ankeny, Iowa.
Private family visitation was before his cremation service.
David was born June 3, 1977, in Marion to Roger and Debbie (Edmunds) Schmidtberger.
He was baptized in the Lutheran church May 10, 1987, in Salina.
While living in Kansas, his family did a lot of outdoor activities, especially during the summer, taking vacations in the mountains of Wyoming, camping, and fishing. He enjoyed going on hikes in the mountains with his Uncle Buddy.
His family moved in 1992 to Iowa, where he met Carrie Wolfe. They had two children: Ashley Dawn, born Oct. 15, 1994, and Austin Damian, born Nov. 4, 1997.
David earned his GED and got a degree in computer technology from Vatterott College.
He had a great love for computers and the Kansas City Chiefs. Upon his passing, he was working for EMC Insurance. He had a great family of friends, including his best friends, Corey and Kara.
He was preceded in death by his father, Roger Schmidtberger; his grandparents, Bill and Virginia Edmunds and Charles Schmidtberger; his uncle, Billy Edmunds; and his cousin, Quinn Stephens.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Ashley Schmidtberger and Austin Wolfe, both of Des Moines; his grandson, Thomas Lynn; his mother, Debbie, and her husband, Barney Bayer, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and his sister, Stacy, and her husband, Nate Ross, along with his nieces and nephew, Isabella, Gavin, and Madalyn, all of Ankeny.
Also surviving are his grandmother, Rosalie Schmidtberger of Marion, and aunts and uncles Melvin Honeyfield, Paula Edmunds, and Nancy Edmunds, all of Marion; Becky and Brad Vannocker of Hillsboro; Lori and Pat Loney of Derby; and Mike and Brenda Schmidtberger of Ottawa.
Additional survivors include many cousins.
