Commission considers changing EMS vacation

Staff writer

County commissioners handled a short list of routine items at Tuesday’s meeting.

Commissioners discussed the possibility of changing employee vacation policy with emergency medical services director Travis Parmley.

“My proposal is they gain 12 hours of vacation a month,” Parmley said. “A one-year employee gets 40 hours a month. Twelve hours a month will allow them to take six days off a year. They ordinarily work either two of three days a week.”

Emergency manager Randy Frank brought an emergency preparedness grant application for commissioners to sign.

He also gave an overview of projects he had worked on, including those related to the recent return of Father Emil Kapaun’s remains to Pilsen.

Commission chairman Randy Dallke asked if Frank had put out a press release about Kapaun’s return.

Frank said he’d sent it only to media outlets in the county.

“Is that part of your job?” Dallke asked.

Frank said it was.

Commissioner David Mueller thanked Frank for working with the Kapaun homecoming.

“It’s an unprecedented event,” Mueller said.

Next week the commission will meet at 9 a.m. Thursday instead of Monday. The regular meeting will be followed by a work session.
