Centre grad eyes corporate job

Staff writer

Emil Godinez Vinduska is at the top of his class, with a 3.98 grade-point average over four years at Centre High School.

“I took a Spanish class one semester and got a B+,” he explained.

Math is one of his favorite subjects. He plans to attend Wichita State University and obtain a degree in accounting.

“Hopefully, after college and some work experience, I can be an accountant for a large company in the area, like Koch Industries or Amazon,” he said.

He already has earned 28 college credits after taking Managerial and Financial Accounting, Calculus I and II, Statistics, English Composition I and II, Psychology, and Public Speaking from Butler Community College. He is on the dean’s honor roll.

Emil is a Governor’s Scholar, finishing in the top 1% of Kansas seniors.

He was active in school life as a member of Centre’s quiz bowl team, Future Business Leaders of America, and band and chorus all four years.

He managed the football team for four years and was video recorder for the girls basketball team this year.

Emil has a sister, Anna, an eighth grader who recently won the Marion County spelling bee. They live in Pilsen with their parents, Enrique Godinez Olivo and Anjanette Vinduska.

“I thank my teachers for fostering my abilities,” he said.

He will walk across the stage with 12 other seniors to get his diploma at 2 p.m. Sunday.
