These accident reports were released this past week by law enforcement agencies:
SHERIFF
US-56/77 north of 340th Rd.
Charles S. Piper, 71, Marquette, hit a deer at 8 p.m. Oct. 17 with his 2015 GMC Acadia, which remained drivable with damage to its left front and hood, according to a report released Friday.
Three others — Mary Piper, 72; Megan Piper, 38; and Elliott Piper, whose age was redacted by the sheriff’s department — were passengers. Their addresses were not included in the report.
190th Rd. east of Remington Rd.
Daniel P. Janzen, 70, rural Hillsboro, hit a deer at 8:52 p.m. Oct. 18 with his 2012 Chevrolet Suburban, which remained drivable with damage to its left front and hood.
330th Rd. east of K-15
As reported in print editions last week, Carson D. Rhodes, 18, rural Durham, was seriously injured at 1:13 a.m. Oct. 19 when he drove his 2020 Dodge Durango off the road to the left and it struck a culvert that launched it 108 feet and caused it to overturn.
Rhodes was taken to Hillsboro Community Hospital and transferred to an undisclosed trauma center by a LifeSafe helicopter.
His sport-utility vehicle was characterized as destroyed.
Deputy Austin Spencer’s report blamed the wreck on speeding, but no tickets were listed as being issued.
US-77 north of US-50
Desiree E. Wright, 31, Lawton, Oklahoma, hit a deer at 7:56 p.m. Oct. 20 with her 2019 Jeep Ranger, which sustained damage to its front and hood.
The accident report contains contradictory information regarding whether the Jeep was towed.
US-56/77 south of 240th Rd.
Kaprinesha M. Williams, 32, Junction City, hit a deer at 8:20 p.m. Oct. 20 while driving a 2014 Chevrolet Cruze owned by passenger Georgia M. Freeman, 72, of the same address.
Felicia L. Trent, 51, also of the same address, was another passenger.
The car sustained damaged characterized as disabling to its front third and undercarriage, but no tow truck was listed as being called.
Timber Rd. north of 30th Rd.
Denae E. Kyle, 49, rural Peabody, suffered possible injury when she hit a deer at 7:15 a.m. Oct. 22 with her 2020 Ford F-150. She was not taken to a hospital by ambulance, however.
The pickup sustained disabling damage to its left front and was towed.
Kanza Rd. north of 250th Rd.
Henry S. Hanes, 39, Hillsboro, hit a deer at 7:21 p.m. Oct. 22 with his 2011 Ford F-150, which remained drivable with damage to its front and undercarriage.
US-56/77 south of 260th Rd.
Robert C. Vinduska, 61, Lincolnville, hit a deer at 7:06 p.m. Thursday with his 2015 Toyota Prius, which sustained damage characterized as minor to its front and hood.
Gabriel F. Vinduska, 17, of the same address was listed as a passenger.
US-56 east of Timber Rd.
Lily D. Stivers, 19, Hutchinson, hit a deer at 10:50 a.m. Friday with a 2019 Ford Fusion owned by Tom W. Stivers of the same address.
The car was listed as destroyed by damage to its front third, undercarriage, windows, and windshield.
HILLSBORO
500 block of E. D St.
Vehicles driven by two 20-year-olds backing out of parking spaces collided at 4:45 p.m. Thursday in a Tabor College lot.
Christina E.J. Garr, Lost Springs, backed the right rear of a 2018 Dodge Journey into the left rear door of a 2008 Ford Escape that Reese E. Hefley, Hillsboro, had just backed out and begun moving forward.
Police Chief Jessey Hiebert’s report said minor damage was done to the Dodge, owned by Colleen Garr of its driver’s address, and the Ford, owned by Ryan Hefley of its driver’s address.
