These accident reports were released this past week by law enforcement agencies:

HIGHWAY PATROL

US-50 west of Union Rd.

Two people were killed in a head-on collision in fog at 6:25 a.m. Thursday.

An eastbound 2017 GMC Acadia driven by Travis Alan Flasschoen, 41, Wichita, crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a westbound 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe driven by John M. Ireland, 71, Cottonwood Falls.

One driver was dead when authorities arrived. The other died while being treated inside Marion ambulance.

Three sheriff’s officers, Peabody firefighters and rescue squad members, Hillsboro and Marion ambulances, a supervising medic, a medic from Goessel, and at least two state troopers responded to the accident.

3rd St. south of Florist St., Marion

Emily K. Ochs, 25, Marion, hit a deer at 12:05 a.m. June 17 with her 2013 Chevrolet Equinox, which sustained damage characterized as minor to its front, hood, and undercarriage, according to a report released Friday.

The accident was investigated by a sheriff’s deputy because no Marion officers were on duty.

US-50 west of Nighthawk Rd.

Cynthia A. Betts, 61, Hesston, hit a deer at 9:45 p.m. June 17 with her 2016 Lexus NX2, which sustained damage characterized as minor to its left front and hood.

180th Rd. west of Eagle Rd.

Donna K. Washmon, 61, rural Hillsboro, hit a deer at 5:20 a.m. June 18 with her 2016 Chevrolet Colorado, which sustained damage characterized as minor to its left front.

US-50 west of Old Mill Rd.

Richard W. Shoffner, 70, Wichita, was taken by ambulance to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center, after he pulled his 2017 Ford Escape onto the right shoulder of US-50 at 3:18 p.m. Friday before turning left into the path of a semi-trailer truck that had been following him.

The collision caused Shoffner’s car to overturn. It came to rest in the left ditch with disabling damage to its right side and windshield. It was towed.

The semi, a 2015 Freightliner owned and driven by Ernesto Aguirre, 52, of El Paso, Texas, sustained disabling damage to its front and hood and was towed as well.

No tickets were listed as being issued.

HILLSBORO

Washington St. south of A St.

Abigail R. Meisinger, 27, rural Tampa, backed her 2012 Chevrolet Silverado out of a parking space at 1:10 p.m. June 17 and into a 2013 Nissan Altima legally parked behind her pickup.

Damages to the rear of her pickup and the front of the Nissan, owned by Jeffrey D. Siegel of Hillsboro, were characterized as minor.

Assistant chief Randall Brazil’s report listed inattentive driving and improper backing, but no tickets were listed as being issued.
