Former Marionite Harry Rogers, nationally famous as the Fire Clown, will be the speaker at this year’s Old Settlers Day celebration. The program for the day includes a parade in the morning followed by a picnic in the park, the afternoon program, games, contests, fireworks at the lake just after dark, and a square dance on the street with real old-time callers and music.

Two cases of polio in Marion County, reported by St. Francis Hospital in Wichita as being not too serious, are Leonard John Bezdek Jr., 5, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Bezdek, Tampa, and Warren Vajnar, 4, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Vajnar, also of Tampa. Both boys are reported to be getting along satisfactorily.

Marion County’s new home demonstration agent, Jane Foster, arrived in Marion this week and took over the duties of Margaret Mehlinger, who has resigned.

Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Richmond and family attended the Tri-County Fair in Herington several days last week. Jim won grand champion on his heifer. Ralph, Jim, and Jack won blue ribbons on their pigs. Evelyn won a blue ribbon on her cake.
