Fruit trees of all kinds are bearing their finest crop in at least the last 10 years, according to Peter Stika of near Lincolnville.

Brrr! The mercury dropped to a shivering 47 degrees Thursday morning for an unseasonal cold snap. The last few days of cool weather have been a welcome change for most people and bring hope of an early frost to hay fever sufferers.
The first Marion County soapbox derby Sunday afternoon proved a highly successful event.
First and second places in Class A for 12-to-15-year-olds, went to Ronnie Post and Harold Shields and in Class B, for age 11 and younger, to Jerry Seifert and Dick Hoch.
Fastest time was made by LaVerne Hoffman, in his third race, with a time of 21 seconds.
