3 Tabor athletes arrested for marijuana

Three Tabor College football players arrested at 3:34 a.m. Sunday on suspicion of possessing marijuana and drug paraphernalia face undisclosed consequences from the college.
“We are aware of the situation, and it will be handled internally through college policies,” communications specialist Adam Suderman said. “There will be no further comment on the matter.”
Suderman did say the football team, scheduled to play Saturday against Friends University in Wichita, will not change its schedule.
Arrested were sophomore defensive back Khallil Mason, 22, of Luling, Louisiana; senior defensive back Kai “K.J.” Gray, 24, of Union, New Jersey; and sophomore wide receiver Jarrod Favors, 22, of Riverside, California.
Hillsboro police officer John Huebert pulled over the 2011 Dodge, registered to Gray, on D St. for illegal fog lights. The lights changed through a set pattern of colors instead of being amber or white.
After saying he noticed an odor of burnt marijuana, Huebert searched the car and found 0.2 of a gram of marijuana and paraphernalia that included packaging, rolling papers, and digital scales.
The items were within immediate reach of the driver and occupants. None claimed ownership of them.
Huebert detained all three and requested backup from deputies Joshua Meliza and Kaylan Miles. He also requested a wrecker from Absolute Towing.
After the three were taken to jail, Marion ambulance was summoned to perform a blood draw at the request of Hillsboro police.
The three were released seven hours later, each on $2,000 surety bond.
Dispatch logs indicate none of the three players faced outstanding warrants, but Mason’s driver’s license was listed as having been suspended.
Tabor athletic director Marty Ziesemer and associate director of athletic communication David Ediger did not return calls seeking comment.
