Happy Hustlers 4-H Club took first place in the open division in this year’s Old Settlers Day parade with its float, “Central Park and 4-H, at the Heart of it All.” This year’s parade theme honored Central Park, which was purchased by the city 100 years ago.

Kay Summervill and Lucas King were crowned queen and king Friday during homecoming ceremonies at the Marion High School football game against Remington. Marion shut out the Broncos 28-0 in front of a packed house despite cold weather.

Frank and Jan Moffitt are hosts for 17-year-old foreign exchange student Ricky Klein of Berlin for the school year. Klein, a former visitor with a Tempelhof exchange group, is classified as a junior. He would like to return next year for his senior year and then attend a state university.

Marion County resident Dan Holub had a brush with history during his trip Sept. 9 to 13 to Washington, D.C., for a National Grain Sorghum Producers meeting.

A light airplane piloted by a man despondent over his life crashed into the White House.

“There were lights, sirens, helicopters, everything,” Holub said. “For a minute there, I thought Haiti had invaded us.”
