Central Park in Marion bore the brunt of Friday night’s windstorm. Several mature trees were severely damaged by 70 mph wind.

City workers were on duty all night Friday and throughout the day Saturday restoring electrical service, repairing wires that were down, and clearing streets of debris.

Florence Middle School coach Steve Janzen will travel Aug. 4 to Topeka to accept his award as Kansas State High School Activities Association middle school coach of the year.

Justin Hett, son of Eldon and Rhonda Hett of Marion, recently completed Future Astronaut Training Program at Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center in Hutchinson.

Viola Klassen Jost, 92, of Hillsboro is Amy Pagenkopf’s selection for this week’s person who made a difference. Jost is the county’s former superintendent of public instruction.

Liverpool will make a return appearance Saturday at Central Park’s stage for Marion Summerfest. The band uses 1960s-era equipment and reproductions of original costumes to re-create the Beatles.
