According to city building inspector Marty Fredrickson, 39 building permits were issued in 2007, with 21 being for new construction, 12 for remodeling, and 6 for electrical work.

At Monday’s Marion County Commission meeting, county emergency services director Steve Smith told commissioners that a $600 grant had been received for an automated external defibrillator to be installed at Marion County Lake.

Annette Wilcox of Marion has been named outstanding employee at St. Luke Hospital for the first quarter of 2008. Wilcox has been employed at St Luke for 29 years.

Lance Selznick, 19, Lincolnville, was killed Jan. 9 in a two-vehicle accident a mile west of Burdick involving three other teenagers, all students at Centre High School: Andy Carlson, Brandon Albrecht, and Stephen Kaiser.

Once again, the Middle East war has hit close to home. Ryan Newell, whose wife recently returned to Marion to live, was severely injured in an IED explosion in Afghanistan. Both of his legs were amputated because of the severity of the explosion.

Alan Meisinger of Marion has joined the firm of Adams, Brown, Beran, and Bell as a staff accountant in its McPherson office.
