Jesse James, famous outlaw and desperado of western Missouri, was reported shot and probably killed on the 2nd.

We are getting old. The Record closes its eighth volume this week. The paper is really older than this indicates, being fairly entitled to the existence it had under the names Western News and Little Giant.

In answer to a petition of people interested, county commissioners at their meeting last week cut Risley Township in twain.

The new township, which is the southern half of the old, was named Liberty. This is a consummation some of the people out there “long have sought,” and we are glad their wishes have at least been attained.

One of the heaviest rains we have ever known to fall here this time of year came down last Thursday. It poured for hours. It prepares the growing wheat for winter and makes the farmers glad.

What kind of den is that in the Mehl building basement, anyhow? It might be well for the proper city officials to investigate the business.
