MORE

may 29, 1913

Considerable work has been done the past 10 days on the driveway through Central Park. The hill just north of the spring, where the drive made a sharp turn, is being cut back 10 or 15 feet, and the dirt moved north to fill up low places. This will be a great improvement. Work should on that driveway should continue as rapidly as possible until it is in first class condition all the way through.

County superintendent Ray has been considerably “puffed up” the past week. He has had the mumps.

The Santa Fe people have already done so much for Marion in their splendid new depot and its handsome environment that it seems almost imposing on good nature and taxing generosity too much to ask them to do more, just now. But, if they would pave and curb an alley between their property and the jail, they would tickle our people awfully.

J.W. Moore, who delivers the memorial address here tomorrow, is an able speaker and earned the right to be heard in actual soldier service during the dark days and bloody ordeals of the rebellion.

A retaining wall is being put in front of the spring in Central Park for a distance of perhaps 100 feet, and an 8-foot drive will be laid. This will be 96 by 100 feet. The cost will be about $350. Perhaps no equal amount of money could be so well spent in the park at this time. Will Moore is doing the work.
