Florence schools were out of coal this week. For a day or more, schools were dismissed, and all the boys went out and chopped wood for fuel.

A prominent citizen asks the Record to give publicity to the suggestion that, owing to the seriousness of the coal situation, the churches of the town unite in Sunday evening services during this winter, just as they did in the summer. Many tons of coal would be saved every Sunday by the union evening service.

Earle Rogers has contracted with H.A. Jones, the local Delco-Light agent, for installation of a lighting plant at his country home.

Owing to the fact that the automobile has become such a staple article and that there has been such an increase in the stealing of cars, there has been a rapid growth in the auto insurance business. Case & Son tell us that they write an average of about two auto insurance policies a day.

George Hauser, W.H. Carpenter, and Fred Williams were elected directors of the drainage district, without opposition, at an election Tuesday. As soon as they organize, they will select a competent engineer, who will make a survey of the territory, lay out a plan or plans for relief, and prepare maps and estimates.
