Marion Police Chief Josh Whitwell has resigned as chief. His last day is Friday and he is driving to Oklahoma on Saturday to start his new job next week. Whitwell has accepted a job as a special agent in the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics. He will be stationed in Ardmore.

Chosen as December students of the month at Marion High School are seniors Caroline Collett and Colten Johnson.

Pictured on the front page is the weather vane atop the barn at Harms Plainview Ranch. It represents the heritage of a farm that has been home to members of the Buethe family since Henry Buethe purchased the property southeast of Lincolnville in 1885.

Washburn University announced its fall semester Dean’s Honor Roll and six students from Marion County are on it. They are Elisa M. Gayle of Florence, Caitlin M. Reimer of Hillsboro, and Louisa R., Collett, Tristen Renee Snelling, Jordan L. Timm, and Jessica E. Vogel, all of Marion.

Randy Pankratz of the law firm of Adrian and Pankratz, Newton, was appointed Dec. 28 as Marion’s municipal court judge.

The family of Jackie Hett had its annual Christmas celebration Dec. 22 at a motel in Wichita. It was the 25th year for the gathering.

Marion High School will crown new royalty Friday during the Queen of Courts ceremony at halftime of the boys’ basketball game against Moundridge at USD 408 Sports and Aquatic Center.

Queen candidates are Laura Robinson, daughter of Sid and Suzanne Robinson; Victoria Steiner, daughter of Perry and Barb Steiner; and Megan Overton, daughter of Arlie and Gina Overton.

King candidates are David Helmer, son of Darin and Jan Helmer; Mikael Antoszyk, son of John and Penny Antoszyk; and Andrew Kjellin, son of Doug and Amy Kjellin.
