Marion High School construction teacher Lucas King is planning to pour the foundation Friday for the first unit of the 10-duplex senior living Homestead Affordable Housing complex west of Warrior Stadium on North Eisenhower. The high school construction class will work on the duplex during the school year.

With the next issue of the Marion County Record, we begin our 143rd year of bringing news to the reader of “the ol’ thing.”

“A fine kettle of fish” is not the way city officials in Marion and Hillsboro described an unusual shad run Monday that resulted in both city water intakes being clogged by thousands of shad — small silver fish often used as bait. Officials explain that the unusual circumstance occurs every 10 years or so, and is triggered by the rapid change from hot to cool weather.

The Clifton Hotel, now the Harvey House Museum in Florence, was the first restaurant opened by Fred Harvey under an agreement with the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railroad to open a chain of restaurants along the railroad. It became the first restaurant chain in the United States.

Marion High School will crown a homecoming queen and king Friday in a ceremony prior to the Warriors game against Moundridge. Homecoming queen candidates are Jessie Taylor, Taylor Harms, and Whitney Gordon. King candidates are Corey Hiebert, Cole Lewman, and Colton Johnson.
