Senior Landon Leiker is the MHS Athlete of the Week. Landon shot an 81 Thursday at the Remington golf tournament in Newton, just three shots more than first place winner Dominic Lara of Circle.

Congressman Mike Pompeo testified April 14, asking Congress to award the Medal of Honor to Father Emil Kapaun, a native of Pilsen, who served as a chaplain in the Korean Conflict.

The Department of Defense officially supports the Medal of Honor for Kapaun. There is no word when the House Armed Services Committee will move forward with the request.

Gov. Sam Brownback has selected Tracy Brunner of Ramona to serve on his agricultural advisory board. Brunner oversees a family-owned beef production business, Cow Camp Beef.

Hillsboro resident and former Marine Norman Mueller was one of 99 World War II veterans who were part of a Central Prairie Honor Flight last week as they visited war memorials in Washington, D.C.

An article by staff writer Rowena Plett tells the history of Excelsior Flour mill, located 1.5 miles south of Marion on the east side of the original route of the Cottonwood River. The mill was in operation from 1871 until 1962 and is the only flour-milling structure remaining in Marion County.
