Marion City Council gave the go-ahead Monday evening to change a city ordinance which would reduce trash pickup to one day a week for residential customers.

Jarrett Johnson is pictured as he leaps for a slam dunk at the basketball goals in Central Park in Marion. He and his friends Tyler Arocha and William Holt practiced their dunk techniques on a basket lowered to 6 feet. They had the day off from school because of spring break.

Fern Goodwin of Burns is featured in an article by staff writer Rowena Plett. Goodwin has been in the machine quilting business for 10 years. Her work can be seen now through Saturday on display at Marion City Library.

Marion High School students will present the comedy, “Arsenic and Old Lace,” Friday and Saturday at USD 408 Performing Arts Center. The cast includes Caroline Collett, Shayla Rahe, Derek Stuchlik, Michael Kirkpatrick, Isaac Baldwin, Nickolas Meyer, Justin Rahe, Andrew Kjellin, Sarah Guetersloh, Ryan Nelson, Dylan Goebel, Landon Leiker, O.G. Obermeyer, JayDee Schafers, and Weber Tang.

John Hajek of Tampa is a recent winner of $2,500 in a drawing by Monsanto’s America’s Farmers Grow Communities program. He received the award March 16 and has stipulated the money be used by the city of Tampa for its community center.

Five members of the Marion Kids Wrestling Club, Tyler Palic, Kyle Palic, Galen Funk, Evan Slater, and Jarret McLinden, qualified for the Kansas Kids state wrestling tournament by placing fourth or higher at the Division III finals at McPherson. They will compete Saturday and Sunday in Topeka.
