Marion County children flooded a free carnival Sunday at Marion Community Center, leaving workers pleasantly exhausted.

Marion Parks and Recreation, Circles of Marion Co. and Hillsboro Lions Club sponsored the carnival.

Circles Coordinator Mark Rodgers said he was surprised at the large turnout.

“Any more and we’d have been overwhelmed,” Rodgers said.

“The adult workers were tired afterward,” Margo Yates, Marion Parks and Recreation director, said, “but it’s all good. The kids had fun.”

Rodgers said the first hour was the busiest with lines of children waiting to try their luck.

Pam Byer of Cirlces and the Rec Commission, said 75 children attended with parents in tow.

Prizes were donated by Western Associates. Donations were taken at the carnival to help support future youth-oriented events, she said.
