Work on railroad crossing set to begin

Long-delayed work to smooth out a rough Union Pacific crossing on W. Main St. in Marion has finally been scheduled for next week.

The crossing, featured prominently in a Record story last week, will be closed from 8 a.m. June 23 until 5 p.m. June 24. City streets will be used as a detour.

The city and Kansas Department of Transportation had been trying for months to get Union Pacific to make necessary repairs to the crossing, which attracted additional attention when its arms and signals malfunctioned four times last week, snarling traffic by indicating a train was coming when none was approaching.
