Wind farm project is taking shape

Staff writer

Travelers on KS-15 north of Durham can see numerous windtowers beginning to spring up.

Diamond Vista wind farm eventually will have more than 90 towers covering a 3x15-mile area between 330th and 360th Rds, from Quail Creek Rd. on the east to the county line on the west.

Enel, an Italian multinational manufacturer and distributor of electricity and gas is the project developer.

Enel Green Power North America public relations manager A.J. Gosselin said the project is on schedule to be completed by the end of the year.

It will have 95 wind turbines capable of generating around 1,300 GWh annually.

Gosselin said the new substation is complete and sits next to the project’s operations and maintenance building.

In addition to the turbines and substation, the project includes an underground collection system, overhead transmission line, access roads to each tower, and road maintenance.

Enel Green Power North America operates four other Kansas wind farms.
