Warriors see 10 honored by league

Staff writer

Marion football fielded a young team this season, but its youth didn’t slow down the Warriors on the field, as they finished the year 7-2.

It didn’t slow them down in the eyes of Heart of America league coaches either, as 10 Warriors were honored with all-league selections.

Juniors Aaron Riggs and Cade Harms were two of just three non-seniors named to Heart of America’s all-league first team offense. Riggs earned the honor as offensive back and Harms for his play on the offensive line.

Marion’s small senior class also was well-represented, with Adam Kjellin and Dylan Pippin earning second-team honors for offensive line and defensive line, respectively.

Among the four other second teamers were sophomores Jack Schneider, quarterback, and Tyler Palic, linebacker. They were the only sophomores to earn anything above an honorable mention. Junior Mason Pedersen was Marion’s lone two-way honoree, grabbing second-team spots for his play at receiver and defensive back.

Marion had three players receive honorable mentions. Sophomores Corbin Wheeler and Garrett Hoffner were named for their play at defensive back and punter, respectively, and junior Bryce Shults was recognized for his defensive back play.
