Warriors repeat as HOA baseball champions

With just one game remaining on its schedule, the Warrior baseball team needed something to happen Tuesday if they were going to repeat as Heart of America League champions.

The Sedgwick Cardinals had to lose a game to stamp out any chance of a two-way tie.

The Warriors also would have to sweep visiting Bennington in the regular-season home finale to claim the title outright.

Both bounced in Marion’s favor with the Warriors crushing the Bulldogs in the opener, 15-1, and 5-1 in the finale.

Sedgwick split with Ell-Saline.

Marion repeats as solo HOA champion, boosting its record to 16-2 on the year.

“We can mark winning the league off now, but we’ve still got two left with winning regionals and state,” Warrior coach Roger Schroeder said. “That’s pretty special having a senior class that’s won back-to-back league titles and something I’m proud of. The team should be, too.”

The Warriors wrap up the regular season Friday, traveling west to Canton-Galva.

Game time is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. at Canton.
