Virginia Hammond

Services will be at a later date for Marion resident Virginia Ann Chronic Hammond, 82, who passed away March 24, 2020, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Marion, Kansas.

She was born June 16, 1938, in Kiowa County, Kansas, the daughter of Eugene Charles Chronic and Mary Alice Thrasher Chronic.

After graduation from Haviland High School, she attended Salt City Business College in Hutchinson. She also earned her LPN and RN degree and worked as a psychiatric nurse, nursing home administrator and a state nursing home inspector.

Upon retirement, she enjoyed teaching CNA classes and helped many students go on to become nurses.

Virginia enjoyed volunteering for 4-H, being involved in her church and sponsoring Trail Rides. She was a member of Eastern Star and was always willing to lend a helping hand with her friends and family. She was an excellent cook, seamstress, artist, and loved reminiscing with friends and family.

Survivors include sons Jeffery (and wife Carolyn) Morris of Hutchinson, Wade (and wife Diane) Morris of Hoisington, Derek (and wife Joyce) Morris of Wichita, and Christopher (and wife Lanissa) Hammond of Marion; daughter Chandra Morris of Marion; stepdaughter Brenda (and husband Butch) Robertson of Eads, Colorado; grandchildren Jerid Rosenberger, Jesse (and wife Annika) Morris, Emilee (and wife Julie) Morris Wilke, Tyler (and wife Shanley) Morris, Michael Morris, Anna Deal, Evann Deal, Chelsi (and husband Chris) Holinde, Shayla (and husband Kody) Cook, Caitlyn (and husband Cory) Meitner, Hunter Morris, Keltonn Morris, Kindra Morris, Savigon Reed, Lakisha (and husband Austin) Crane, Zachary Hammond, and Colton Hammond; 14 great-grandchildren; and sister Karen Little.

Her brother, Galen Chronic, husband, Stewart Hammond, and grandsons, Bryce Morris, and David J. Reed, preceded her in death.

A memorial fund has been established for Marion Christian Church. Baker Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
