Schmidt family holds reunion

Fifty-three descendants of Reinhardt and Julia (Nuss) Schmidt met Aug. 5 at Tampa Senior Center for a family reunion including a potluck luncheon and slideshow of family history.

Reinhardt and Julia Schmidt were the parents of eight children born in Durham Park Township. In 1927 the family moved to a Scully lease just south of Tampa. The Schmidts’ youngest child, 98-year-old Evelyn Hensley of Winfield, was in attendance and is the only surviving sibling.

The Hensley children were hosts for the event, including Rita Hensley and Charles Quinn, Pamela and Lawrence Moreno, and Julie Utt, all of Winfield; Jim and Lisa Hensley of Lowry Crossing, Texas; and Ela, Micah, and Hananiah Quinn of Kansas City, Missouri.

Other relatives in attendance were, from the family of Ruth Klein, Brian and Denise Klein and Nate, Ruth Ann Tajchman, and Kevin and Kelly Krch, Seth, and Nicholas, all of Lincolnville; Daniel Klein of Hillsboro; Joyce Freeman, Danny and Christy Freeman of Emporia; Henry Freeman of Bushong; Vincent Freeman of Newton; Steve Klein of Salina and Kim Freidley of Hope; Myron and Betty Klein; Caren and Warren Remmers and Paula Ewers of Wichita; Dylan Ewers of Manhattan; Christine and Glen Tajchman of Topeka; and Deborah Luna of Lowell, Massachusetts.

Attending from the family of Freida Klein were Donna Backhus and Tina and B.J. Clement of Tampa.

Present from the family of Reinhardt Schmidt Jr. were Karen Reiner of Fishtail, Montana; Terry and Judy Schmidt; Steve, Stacie, Noah, Seth, and Gabby Schmidt; Valerie and Tony Fox of Teague; and Hailey Fox and a guest, Tuttle, Oklahoma.
