Rose Martinez

Rose Marie (Llamas) Martinez, 73, died Saturday at Kidron Bethel in North Newton.

Rose was born April 2, 1943, to Guadalupe and Marian (Saenz) Llamas in Newton.

She graduated Newton High School, attended Bethel College, and then became a cosmetologist. She also spent many years providing care for children in her home.

She married Julian Martinez on June 6, 1970; they divorced in 1979.

Rose was a member and volunteer at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, and served on the Newton Housing Board.

Survivors include companion Jack Malek; daughters, Kimberly Sue Martinez of Newton and Jacqueline Pullen of O’Fallon, Missouri; sisters, Sue Rangel of Newton and Mary Short of Wichita; brother, Mark Llamas; and five grandchildren:

She was preceded in death by brothers, Gary Llamas, Phillip Llamas, and Guadalupe Llamas, Jr.

Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. today at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Newton, with a Rosary at 7 p.m.

A funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the church, with internment to follow at Prairie Lawn Cemetery, Peabody.

A memorial has been established for Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Newton.
