Post office offers eclipse postmark

Commemorative solar eclipse postmarks and stamps will be available at Monday open houses at Marion and Peabody post offices.

A postmark featuring the eclipse date and a line of solar images progressing through the eclipse will be stamped free of charge on any item bearing first class postage.

Total Eclipse of the Sun stamps have a solar eclipse image that transforms into the moon from the heat of a finger, and reverts back to the eclipse once cooled. The special issue Forever stamps are sold in blocks of 16, with an eclipse map printed on the back.

Stamp portfolios, protective sleeves, and framed stamped art also will be available.

Those who cannot attend the event but who wish to obtain the special postmark may submit a mail order request. Envelopes or postcards with first class postage affixed and address of the recipient should be placed in a larger envelope and mailed to Solar Eclipse Postmark, Marion Post Office, 423 E. Main St., Marion KS 66861. Requests must be postmarked by Sept. 20.
