Activity reports

Police provided these reports this week of their activities. Routine training, patrols, office work, and assistance to other agencies are excluded.

HILLSBORO

July 2 — For the second time in two days, police had to track down a resident who left loud music playing in an apartment in the 900 block of E. D St.

July 3 — Suspicious activity in the 300 block of N. Jefferson St., fireworks debris in the senior center parking lot, a disabled vehicle in the 200 block of W. C St., a disorderly person in the 300 block of N. Birch St., and the welfare of a child in the 300 block of N. Lincoln St. were investigated.

July 4 — An officer spent the day working on computer issues related to a power failure. A civil matter about not being paid for an item was reported. Welfare of a resident of the 400 block of S. Washington St. was checked.

July 5 — A disturbance among neighbors n the 300 block of N. Birch St., an attempted phone scam, a suspicious vehicle on A St., and a disabled vehicle in the 300 block of N. Jefferson St. were investigated. Parents reported that their juvenile son had been coming to Hillsboro to meet with someone they do not approve of.

Thursday — Police investigated a harassment complaint in the 300 block of N. Madison St. and checked on two people who were walking to Texas.

Friday — Officers investigated an unattended death in the 400 block of S. Adams and heard a dog complaint from the 400 block of S. Date St. in addition to helping a motorist at Ash and Juniper Sts.

MARION

July 3 — A possible burglary of an occupied residence in the 400 block of N. 2nd St. was reported. Officers received seven fireworks complaints and observed an ATV being driven on a roadway after dark.

Officers could not locate a vehicle that reportedly was driven recklessly in Central Park. A vehicle on US-56 near Upland Rd. was stopped for failing to move over or slow down for a stopped emergency vehicle. Oral warnings were given for several other traffic infractions. Vehicle breakdowns on US-56 near Industrial Rd. and on Eisenhower Rd. were investigated.

July 4 — A motorist was warned about speeding in the 900 block of E. Main St. Officers decided a report of reckless driving was unfounded. More oral warnings were given for other traffic infractions. No complaints were received about fireworks being shot after midnight.

July 5 — Officers contacted people who reportedly had been discharging fireworks illegally.

Thursday — Routine activities only.

Friday — A complaint of a possible scam was investigated, and two motorists were warned about not having license plate lights.

Saturday — Police issued oral warnings for speeding in the 200 block of E. Main St., for having an obstructed license plate at Main and Locust Sts., and for not having a license plate light on US-56 near Remington Rd. The welfare of a resident of the 400 block of S. 4th St. was checked.

Sunday — Officers checked a false alarm of a break-in in the 1100 block of E. Main St, and a hit-and-run accident in the 200 block of N. 3rd St. The accident report is not yet complete.

PEABODY

July 5 — Police took a report of theft. Police chief Bruce Burke said officers do not yet know what items were stolen or when they were stolen.

Thursday — Taylor Pontious, 18, Peabody, was arrested on a warrant alleging failure to appear in court.

Saturday — Police responded to an unattended death at Indian Guide Apartments, 501 N. 9th. Police received a complaint of rape of a 20-year-old Peabody woman. Two search warrants were executed for evidence in the case. Burke declined to release further information because the matter remains under investigation. No arrests have been made at this time.

Monday — A child welfare case was turned over to Department for Children and Family Services in Newton.
