Peabody updates payment system

Peabody will be buying new tablets for its city office and police department to make it easier to accept credit card payments.

The old tablets at both offices had card readers, but they had become too outdated for software updates.

“The iPads we bought last time, if I remember right, were all refurbished,” councilman Travis Wilson said at Monday’s city meeting. “That’s something we probably could do if we needed to. The problem is, you buy refurbished stuff and can only update it for so long.”

Purchasing the tablets would be a good decision because of how often people use credit cards to make payments, he said.

The tablets cost the city $1,622.
