Peabody gets active for fall fest

An assortment of activities is planned for the third annual Peabody Fall Festival Sept. 26.

Hours will be 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Winners of a scarecrow contest sponsored by R. Phillips Inc. can win prizes of up to $100. Any family, business, or group can enter. Entry forms are available on the Peabody Fall Festival social media page and need to be turned in to city hall by Sept. 25.

Sept. 16 is the deadline to enter a morning wiffle ball tournament to be played east of City Park. Teams can enter by filling out a registration form, available at City Hall, and mailing it with a $15 entry fee to Marion Nava, 58 E. 27th Ave., Hutchinson, KS 67502.

Horseshoe players can test their skill at an 8:15 a.m. tournament at City Park. Registration fee is $20. First place prize is $50, second place prize is $30, and third place prize is $20. To enter, call Kristi Silvernale at (620) 382-5884 or register that morning.

Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Hub. Cost is by donation.

“No Bow Tie” with guitarist John Svoboda, will perform from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Santa Fe Park.

At the end of the concert, a Warrior head and two other pieces created by Humphrey’s Chainsaw Carvings will be auctioned. Humphrey’s will give chain saw carving demonstrations from 9 a.m. to noon.

A Story Book Walk sponsored by Parents as Teachers will be set up in the shade of trees across from Santa Fe Park.

A first responders meet and greet will be from 10 to 11 a.m. by Santa Fe Park. Visitors can see a fire truck, ambulance, and police car and learn about safety.

A virtual dog show will be hosted by the Legion Auxiliary.

Other events will include a Make and Take Birdhouse, a Peabody Township Library Book Sale, “Mystery Unveiling of the Disgusting Plywood” at 10 a.m. at Sunflower Theater, a pumpkin count of pumpkins in windows, and a coloring contest for all ages.
