Peabody-Burns volleyball sets sights on regionals

Staff writer

Peabody-Burns volleyball team has its hopes set on a run through regionals.

“We have the potential,” outside hitter Lexi Schreiber said. “It’s about if we put our minds to it. This is going to be one of our better years.”

Schreiber and setter Kaete Johnson have each been playing six years. That much experience is a boon for them and for the team, Johnson said.

“It seems a lot more natural now,” she said.

The team also is taking advantage of the chemistry between players that developed during summer league, Schreiber said.

“We definitely have to work together,” she said. “If not, then no one will ever talk and that won’t work.”

While they have positions, they aren’t concrete assignments.

Not having strict roles is an advantage in tight spots, Lexi said.

“If there’s a girl who isn’t at the game, coach can put you in that position and it’s OK,” she said.

The Warriors often play bigger teams, so gaining momentum early has extra emphasis, Johnson said.

“It’s hard going in because you know they’re really good,” she said. “Once you get a good play, it fires you up and you can roll off it. It pushes us more.”
