County commissioners Monday voted to hire an Illinois-based consulting firm to review the county’s employee pay plan.

McGrath Human Resources Consulting, Wonder Lake, Illinois, bid $17,997 to analyze the pay plan. According to their proposal, McGrath specializes in public sector jobs including human resource management, fire, emergency medical services, law enforcement, and communications.

The analysis will include market information on salaries paid by comparative government agencies.

Other companies who submitted proposals ranged from $11,375 to $34,650. Some companies have not worked with government bodies before.

Commissioners asked county clerk Tina Spencer when the pay plan was last studied and she said between 2013 and 2014, but that was only a partial study. The last time a comprehensive pay plan study was done was before 2008, she said.
