Park fountain still down

Finding obsolete parts has made it a challenge keeping the large fountain in Marion’s Central Park functioning.

Utility supervisor Marty Fredrickson thought his crews had it fixed several times since the fountain began having trouble before Chingawassa Days.

“The pump went out; we fixed it. The motor went out; we fixed it. Then the seal went out so we ordered a new one,” Fredrickson said.

Unfortunately, it was the wrong one since replacement parts for older fountains are difficult to find.

“I went ahead and ordered a new pump and motor, and it should arrive next week for installation,” Fredrickson said Friday.

The smaller fountain east of the large one is functioning.
